Item details

his pteranodon pattern is dedicated to my little sister, who aged six wanted to be one. They are fantastic creatures, a shame they’re all extinct, but now you can bring them back by making your own.

This is a pattern to make a pteranodon, written in US crochet terms. There are no complicated stitches but there is a fair bit of sewing, making the pattern a little hard for a complete beginner. I recommend that this pattern is for advanced beginner level and above. You need to be confident making a magic ring, working in both rows and a continuous spiral, simple colour changes, increases and decreases. You can use any yarn and colours you like but the example was made using DK weight yarn and a 3.25mm hook and measures 22cm from beak tip to back feet and has a wingspan of 37cm. I also used 7.5mm safety eyes but these could be embroidered instead.

The pteranodon can support its wings without wires, and so is safe as a toy for young children. You are welcome to sell any pteranodons you make from my pattern.
