Item details

The ageless grace of the Balinese face is rendered beautifully in this decorative carved bone brown cabochon, handcrafted by an artisan carver on the Island of the Gods.

The androgynous face is sheered down the right side, making the 40mm piece asymmetrical. The left side is framed by the etched swirls and patterning of a Balinese motif.

The piece has been stained in such a way that it has taken on an antique-look.

This is the undrilled version of my pendant bead that has a small hole through the top of the head. So just to be clear, the piece you are purchasing in this listing has no hole in it.

The serene visage, the sheer artistry of the carving, and the textured edges makes this a desirable jewelry supply item.

As these pieces are hand-carved, no two are identical. The piece you are purchasing is the one shown in these photos.

Size: Approx 40mm (L) x 26mm (W)
Thickness: Approx 4mm
Weight: Approx 6 grams

The island of Bali is home to Indonesia's Hindu minority and is inhabited by about 4.2 million people, according to the 2010 census.

About 89 per cent of the population is Balinese, about 7 per cent Javanese, and there are about 30,000 expats believed to be living there.

About 84.5 per cent of the island's inhabitants follow the Hindu religion, while most of the remainder are followers if Islam.

Culturally and linguistically, the Balinese are thus closely related to the people of the Indonesian archipelago, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Oceania.
