Item details

Jacobean Oakleaf design in PDF download blackwork / embroidery chart.

This chart was inspired by some lovely oak leaves we found last autumn. The blackwork chart has been written to give you flexibility and allows you to use your own artistic interpretation.

You will need some previous experience in blackwork to complete this project as this is a chart only with no instruction on how to perform basic blackwork stitches.

The PDF includes two pages: A clear, easy to follow A4 chart for those who like to work in a counted style and one with a design outline which can be traced around and transferred to the fabric for those who want to fill a design with blackwork stitches.

Blackwork is very rewarding and therapeutic to stitch, it is very similar to cross stitch but works quite quickly and once you can see where you are going with the design, there is no need to keep looking at the chart, except to see where threads and stitches change.

The design outline also acts as a guide if you wish to outline the blackwork piece with a contrasting or even metallic thread.

This design can also be used for crewel embroidery, goldwork, whitework or any other art application.

We have left the design as a basic chart on purpose so that those who want to add shading can do so by adding stitches or using different thicknesses of threads.

The chart comes complete with full instructions and the finished piece measures approx. 14 x 18 cm on 16 count Aida or 32 count evenweave.
