Item details

The trees in this set are outdoor trees and come in 2 1/4" pots as shown. They can be planted in full sun to part sun with well-draining soil. Let them dry out to barely damp in between watering sessions if they are grown in a container, to avoid over-watering. Shelter them from that hot, western summer sun in warmer zones if planted in a container.

As a group, cold hardy to zones 5 to 8, or to -20F
Juniper and Spruce are much hardier
Heat hardy zones 8 to 1

Winter Maintenance: Clean out the dead leaves inside the trees when you see it
These are young, baby plants that will need shelter from the extremes

Full sun to part sun
For containers or in-ground

All are outdoor plants
Come in 2 1/4" pots

**In order as they appear:

Mother Lode Juniper - Juniperus horizontalis 'Mother Lode'

The Mother Lode Juniper is a surprisingly a great dwarf shrub for the miniature garden. A great candidate for Bonsai artists, so we can be confident that its a tolerant tree for containers, as well as frequent pruning.

It's a ground cover shrub that stays low to the ground and the new growth reaches out slowly, never upwards, only sideways and it's easy-peasy to control. Just trim it where you want.

The best part of the Mother Lode Juniper is the color. Lemon yellow tipped foliage in the summer (greener in the shade) turns to lovely deep orange in the fall, then a plum color in the winter, (called the winter blush.)

Growth rate is 3 to 6"/yr
Prostrate growth habit
4" tall

Colors change with the seasons
Turns brighter yellow in full sun
Trim back any wayward branches
Can cascade down a wall or pot

Cold hardy zones 3 - 9 or -40F
Heat hardy zones 9 - 1
Great for hot, dry areas

Full sun to part shade (sun will bring out the best color)
Regular water until established but let dry out in between to avoid over-watering
Let dry out to barely damp in between to avoid over watering if in a container

Thoweil Hinoki Cypress - Chamaecyparis obtusa ‘Thoweil’

The Thoweil is new hinoki cypress for your miniature garden with an upright and narrow growth habit. The small, deep green foliage with the naturally sculpted upright habit will add a stately specimen to any miniature garden scene.

Heat Hardy: Heat Zones 8-1

Light: Full sun to part shade
Water: Regular water if in a pot, let dry out to damp in between watering
Maintenance: Clean out the dead leaves inside the shrub when you see them

Tips may turn bronze or amber in the colder areas in winter, it's 'winter blush'

Jean's Dilly Dwarf Spruce - Picea glauca 'Jean's Dilly'

This is one of our favorite trees for miniature gardening and a best seller. This miniature Christmas tree, the Dwarf Spruce is a pleasure to grow year 'round. It keeps it's shape over time with it dense, the new needles twist out of the ends of the branches in the springtime.
