Our handmade FunWare are made from high quality white stoneware clay. They are glazed using a variety of high fire cone 6 commercially made glazes. All the glazes we use are lead-free and food safe.
How is it made?
I start by throwing a wedge of clay on the pottery wheel to make the basic shape of the ware. I leave it out in the fresh air to harden up for a day, then begin making additions. I add on any parts it may have, such as a handle, legs, eyeballs, and ears. I then let it dry, and use a wet sponge to give it a little sponge bath to get rid of any bumps and lumps, then carve textures and details into it. The ware is then carefully hand painted with three layers of glaze. It is then fired in the kiln where it sits for 24 hours. When it’s cool I photograph it, create a listing for it, and bam, there it is for you to purchase!
Is it microwave safe? Dishwasher safe?
Our FunWares are not microwave safe, the glazes can crack in the microwave.
They are however dishwasher safe! We’ve been washing our own personal FunWares in the dishwasher for years and it has no affect on them.
Does FunWare make great gifts?
Yes, yes, YES! FunWare is an AWESOME gift for your loved ones. These items are unique and handcrafted, and certainly can’t be found just anywhere. We even have a gift wrapping option at checkout. If you check that little box, we’ll gift wrap your order before it’s sent out, and you can even include a message! There’s no easier or more unique gift out there!
How do you price it?
When you buy a ceramic ware at a store, it was likely made in a factory, using machines, robots, molds, and underpaid workers. Those wares are cheap to produce, pennies on the dollar, and yet stores still charge $20 and up for them.
Unlike the ceramic wares you’d buy in most stores, this piece was handmade in the USA (in Western New York to be specific) by one single person. All of the clay and glazes used are sourced locally from a small ceramics shop. I make every piece by hand in my basement studio. There’s a lot of love, time, and energy invested into each and every piece. It takes me almost two hours to make each ceramic ware.
The cost of the ware covers the cost of clay, glaze, tools, electricity to run the kiln, packaging supplies, shipping fees and my time and energy spent creating it. The cost also covers the fees charged by Etsy for the transaction. I try my absolute best to keep prices as low as possible because I truly want these FunWare pieces in your hands!
What’s the deal with shipping?
Shipping is calculated by the magical elves working behind the scenes at Etsy. We enter in the package weight and size, and Etsy configures shipping charges according to the distance the package has to travel.
Etsy’s elves try their best but they’re not always 100% accurate on their calculations. If they overcharge on shipping, we’ll refund any overage over $1 back to you, the customer.
How is it packaged?
We put a lot of thought and effort into our packaging to make sure our wares not only get to you safely, but you have a lot of fun opening them as well!
Each piece is wrapped in colorful tissue paper and placed in a white box with colorful spring fill. We include some stickers and a lovely gift tag on the box. That gift box is then placed in a shipping box and surrounded with airbags and packing peanuts to ensure nothing will happen to it in transit.
Whenever possible we use recycled and sustainable materials to ship our products. The packing peanuts are biodegradable, and the air bags and boxes are recycled. We care about the environment and spend a little extra on shipping supplies to help protect it.
We take care to use extra tape and extra packing material to ensure your new FunWare will arrive intact. We’ve shipped hundreds of items and have never had one break in transit, even overseas!
Bonus: For every tenth sale we make, we toss in a free gift and a coupon for 15% off your next order, you just never know, it might be you who gets lucky!
Is this going to be the best purchase I’ve ever made on Etsy?
You can bet your bottom dollar! We put so much love and joy into each of our FunWare pieces that we’re confident you’re going to absolutely love it. And hey, if you don’t, send it back and we’ll give you a refund! You’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain!
Who even are you? How can I learn more about you and your process?
Oh hey, I’m Meredith by the way. I happen to have a website chock full of information about my woodland art farm. I frequently post about my artistic process and the happenings on our homestead. It’s called ImaginAcres, and you can check it out here: www.imaginacres.com
This monster is one of the sweetest monsters I've ever met. I am so happy with him. He's everything you could want in a monster - namely being cute - and he does that in grand fashion. Thank you for helping him pack himself and his brothers and getting them on their way to me in a very quick fashion. They all appreciated a quick transit time!
