Sashiko is a traditional form of Japanese quilting. Thick cotton thread and broad-woven cotton fabrics are best for sashiko, as are these needles from Olympus of Japan. The eyes are large, making them easy to thread. These are thicker than the other needles offered in my shop, and easiest to handle for those with arthritis.
Needles measure 2" & 2.5" (5 & 6 cm). The shorter needle is best for sewing curves, and the longer needle is best for straight lines. A thimble is optional, but helpful when sewing through multiple layers or heavy fabrics.
NOTE TO QUILTERS: This is NOT the needle you want for sewing through quilt fabrics and batting as it is too thick. It is perfect for sewing fabrics with a looser weave, such as Olympus fabrics and is ideal for the Olympus sashiko kits.
