Gem silica, chrysocolla cabochon cut from old stock material from the Inspiration Mine, Gila County, Arizona. From an old estate collection, I was told the rough had been out of the ground for about 30 years. It had been sitting around for so long, the exterior had oxidized. It looked like dirty malachite.
The mine this rough came from is closed to collectors.
This piece is a rectangular shape, with ribbons of blue and green chrysocolla, with a swath chayotant emerald green malachite embedded in quartz. Little open drusy pocket on the face of the stone that sparkles. Very striking in appearance.
Please note that due to the varied mineral content hardness of this type of material, there is often significant texture to the surface. This is an UNTREATED stone.
Generally what I am seeing here as I cut and polish out, where you see the pattern visually, is where you are going to see the texture on the surface. These pieces will take a softer polish due to that and not a hard, bright one.
Please do not hesitate to ask any questions you may have about this.
