Item details

This is a scan (not an original paper copy) of an antique 1877 booklet Collection of Traditional Russian Cross Stitch embroidery Patterns.
The designs are illustrated over graph paper, which serves both as a visual example of the design as well as the chart.
This booklet contains approximately 100 designs on 12 pages (plus cover) with an average of 8 separate designs of red embroidery on each page. The designs are unlike anything you had ever seen.

The images are absolutely gorgeous and include a number of traditional borders as well as birds, animals and scenes from country life. These embroidery patterns were widely used on clothing and household items such as bed linens, towels, kitchen textiles throughout Imperial Russia.
The charts can also be used as patterns for a fine mosaic.

BOY, what a BIG range of designs, all in red-work. Am more used to seeing Ukrainian embroidery subjects but these Russian ones are definitely different. Needed a bit of help to translate a couple of sentences but that was provided by the seller, thanks again!

Beautiful patterns, but even with the very best printing, too blured reproductions for me to possibly follow. This would have been useful to be warned about as I had planned to use the patterns to sew from.

Lines are crisp and clean, and very russian/folk which is exactly what I needed.
