This is a PDF pattern to crochet a baby's blessing bonnet. (Sorry, I am not selling the finished hat.) It is in one size, 3 months, but of course babies' heads vary!
When my last little girl was being blessed she wore the same handsmocked dress her sisters wore, and was wrapped in a blanket made for her older sister, but I wanted her to wear something special made just for her. I couldn't find the bonnet pattern I had in mind for her--something classic and simple. So I created this pattern and crocheted her this little vintage-looking, off-white bonnet a few days before her blessing day.
It is a beautiful, classic bonnet that covers the ears, ties under the chin, nips in at the nape and frames the baby's face. It has straight rows around the face and and open work lacy pattern in the back. It is created in the round for easy finishing (no seaming!). I loved it so much I made my baby a second bonnet in this beautiful blush pink color.
This pattern works up very quickly. You can create a last minute gift for a special baby, or create a full layette of hats in different colors. Using cotton yarn makes this wearable in any season. It's just the right weight to keep baby from catching a chill.
