The items shown here are bleached and dyed cruelty free ostrich feather drabs. Drabs are the body feather of an ostrich. Drabs are very different from the wing feather plumes, most noticeably in the way that short drab feathers do not droop at the end the way a wing plume does. We ensure the removal of ostrich spads, a similar but lower quality alternative to drabs. The drab fibers and quill are much finer, softer and shorter. An ostrich drab is a craft item popularly used for hats, headbands, headdresses, masks and hair clips. You will also commonly find ostrich feathers in wedding centerpieces, bouquets and on costumes. Cruelty free are feathers that has been gathered from naturally shed feathers instead of being plucked from the ostrich. When ostriches molt, they start to drop their beautiful drab and tail feathers. Unlike peacocks, ostriches molt at a much faster pace and grooming them also yields many additional feathers. Our ostrich feathers are sourced locally here in California. You will find that the humanitarian gathering methods are worth the extra cost of such feathers.
Our shop aims to take the sorting out of crafting and the stress out of worrying over quality for your special events. If you have a specific quantity you are looking for, please let us know via an Etsy conversation.

6 to 8 inches is a stretch. All three feathers that I received were 6 inches. Seven at the most.
