Item details

Looking for a face that is easily recognisable and shows interesting character is not always as simple as you might think. Albert Einstein seems to be a very suitable subject.

The image in this illusion knit is designed to be viewed from the side so it is ideal for hanging on the wall or as a centrepiece for an afghan. When you look at the knitting from directly in front you see only stripes. Illusion knitting has to be seen to be believed.

The hanging shown in the photos was knitted very tightly using DK yarn and measures approximately 26 inches square. Any yarn can be used though this may affect the overall size.

Illusion knitting (which is also known as shadow knitting) is very easy. It uses one yarn at a time and only basic knit and purl stitches. In addition to information about illusion knitting, the pattern includes charts in two sizes.

Steve Plummer and Pat Ashforth are world experts in Illusion Knitting.

September 2013: All illusion patterns now include an extra chart intended for tablet users but others may also find them helpful. You can view 20 ridges at a time and always be able to see the numbers across the bottom of the chart. Never lose your place again!

This is an AWSOME pattern. I'm a math professor, and I worked on this over the summer and my department loves it hanging on the wall. Very simple combinations of knits and purls make an amlost photograph picture. AMAZING!
