Item details

The stylized white peacock depicted in this finely hand-carved bone cabochon would make a stunning piece of bridal jewelry.

It could be fashioned into a very nice necklace but you could also add a pin back to it or make it into a brooch or barrette.

The scope for using this beautiful bird with swirls and flourishes for feathers isn't confined to jewelry. If you're into scrapbooking, you could use it as an embellishment on a special page, maybe even a wedding page. And for a super special wedding card, what a superb feature it would be.

You might even want to think luxe wedding favors. For big quantities, you'd need to order well in advance because each piece is crafted by a small collective of carvers in Bali.

I will make a special price on bulk orders but require a 50 per cent deposit in these circumstances. Please convo me to discuss the possibilities.

You won't find this sweet little piece anywhere else because it's exclusive to Indounik, as are many of the designs featured here in my Etsy shop.

This beautiful bird is also available in a brown, antique-look finish that you can see here - http://www.etsystudio.com/listing/75321941/merak-brown-carved-bone-cabochon

The Peacock is associated with the Hindu deity Lakshmi, Goddess of Wealth, representing benevolence, patience, kindness, compassion and good luck.

Lakshmi, wife of Vishnu, is sometimes depicted with armbands in the form of peacocks. The birds are sacred to her because their cries are associated with the rainy season and hence, fertility.

If you love our feathered friends then you might like to visit the Bali Bird Park, home to one of the world's finest collections of Indonesian birds.

The park is set in two hectares of landscaped botanical gardens, including more than 2000 tropical plants.

The Park plays a key role in protecting and conserving Indonesia’s endangered birdlife, including the Bali starling.

The word for bird in Bahasa Indonesia, the language of Indonesia, is 'burung'. The word for peacock is 'merak'.

The Peacock

What's riches to him
That has made a great peacock
With the pride of his eye?
The wind-beaten, stone-grey,
And desolate Three Rock
Would nourish his whim.
Live he or die
Amid wet rocks and heather,
His ghost will be gay
Adding feather to feather
For the pride of his eye.

I think I will try to make a necklace with this carving as a focal point, that will be worthy of a beaming bride. Thank you for your prompt, gracious service. I will be back.

Ah--just as charming if not more so in person. My mother loved to paint birds (in fairly abstract form) and this piece has always reminded me of her birds. I like the slightly whimsical quality. I want to do something special with this one. Thank you!
