For sale is a poster and 15 page pamphlet issued by The Old State House, Hartford, Connecticut. The subject is an exhibition entitled "The Artist and The Space Shuttle" organized and circulated by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service. The exhibition was made possible by a grant from Hamilton Standard, a division of United Technologies. The pamphlet measures 8 inches tall by 5 3/4 inches wide and the poster measures 28 inches high by 21 and 1/2 inches wide.
There is a one Welcome page by the Executive Director of the Old State House Association followed by two pages of comments written by Robert Schulman, Director, NASA Art Program etitled "NASA Art Program, Space Shuttle Art Collection". The remainder of the pamphlet contains a sampling of the exhibit with black and white prints of art work of various artists depicting shuttles and astronauts. There are 12 black and white prints within the interior. The exterior cover is a colored print of a 1983 acrylic painting entitled "Taking Off To Make the Dreams Come True" by artist Andreas Nottebohm. This is the same print that is the subject of the poster. There are some surface creases along the bottom edge of the poster and some ripples along the top edge...no stains or tears. The pamphlet is in excellent condition.
There is no date of the exhibition indicated and no date of the printing of the pamphlet. I believe the exhibit date was in the earlier part of the 1980's as there is no mention of, or dediction to, the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster of January 28, 1986.
The poster as well as the pamphlet will be shipped in a tube via USPS.
