Item details

Penny Penguin is the perfect gift for any child. It is even sized to fit a rattle insert in the body. When stuffed with polyester fibrefill, it is very light for small hands.

This piece is worked in 8 pieces: head, body, beak, tail, 2 wings, 2 feet and it is crocheted in a continuous spiral. Do not join rounds. A stitch marker, such as a piece of contrasting yarn placed at either the beginning or the end of the round can help keep track of round in the spiral. The round stitch count (number of stitches in the round) is given in brackets at the end of most rounds.. Stuff as you go (polyester filling, cotton, yarn scraps, etc.). Finish the piece by sewing together the parts.

1. This pattern is written in clear North American terms.

2. Stitches Used: chain (ch), single crochet (sc), single crochet decrease (sc2tog), slip stitch (sl st), extended single crochet (xsc)

3. Instructions given for all stitches

4. The electronic PDF pattern file will be emailed to the one listed on ETSY or to another you have identified within 24 hours of purchase.

5. The pattern is sized to fit a 1.5" diameter rattle insert in the body. There are some available for sale in The Silver Hook Etsy shop.

6. The pictured penguin has plastic safety eyes, but you can always embroider them!

Approximate Measurements: 3 inches tall

Penny Penguin pictured was made with worsted weight (size 4) acrylic yarn from Red Heart, however you can use any size yarn (will affect final size) or any type yarn. The Silver Hook likes to use acrylic yarn for babies since it is stain resistant and durable yarn.

The pattern PDF will be emailed to your Etsy email address (unless a different address is specified in a message).
