Maintaining your handcrafted wood cutting board is simple yet so very important to its longevity. The constant hot to cold, dry to wet conditions require the wood to be periodically rejuvenated in order to remain moisturized and protected from water damage.
This is why I always take extra care and send out a 2 oz container of this finish free with all my cutting boards, (some shops are charging as much as $7.99 for this much!!), but eventually that little jar will run out and your poor cutting board will be left to dry out and crack.
Try out this large long lasting 14 Fl Oz. version of my same custom blend heavyweight mineral oil, pure Beeswax, and a touch of carnauba wax. Just the right mix to be soft enough for easy application, while retaining a high enough wax content to provide a beautiful luster. All ingredients are absolutely non toxic and food grade.
Not just for cutting boards though... try it on all your wooden kitchenware, wood countertops, wooden childrens toys, teething rings (tastes great), baby cribs, knife handles, to soften up leather, woodwork around the house, the list goes on.. You can even use it as lip balm or to soften up those hands..
Directions are simple: Apply to any clean wooden surface, allow to soak in for 15-30 min, wipe off excess and give it a quick buff with a cotton cloth to polish.. (paper towels work just fine as well) If using after washing cutting board, please allow wood to dry completely before application. Reapply any time the wood looks or feels dry or you just want a pleasant smell!

Although a properly prepared and executed glue joint is incredibly strong, I also employ different types of internal joinery wherever possible to ensure the longevity of your purchase. These methods include splines, biscuits, dowel pins, and dovetails. The strength of these joints is witnessed by my personal cutting board, who's multiple inlays and several different seams are held together by a combination of pins and biscuits. As a test, I have run this board through the dishwasher over 20 times (NOT RECCOMENDED!!), and while it is worse for the wear, it is still 100% intact and I use it everyday.
Again, as this was just a test, please don't try this with your own purchase, as the extreme heat and moisture of a dishwasher will eventually lead to irreparable damage.
Care for a wooden cutting board is simple enough, just handwash with a mild soapy solution, rinse and let dry. Every once in a while (2 weeks to a month), wipe on a little of the mineral oil/beeswax finish provided with your cutting board. This will maintain the luster of the wood and provides protection from moisture. Additional wood moisturizer is available for purchase as well.
For more aggressive cleaning, use a solution of 1 part bleach to 3 parts water and flood surface. Wait 15-20 minutes, rinse and pat dry. Wait until fully dry and wipe on a little finish.
A properly cared for wood cutting board is a happy one, so please follow these simple instructions and you will enjoy the beauty and function of these natural materials for years to come.
Also, a note to those who contacted me asking why I have started putting rubber feet on almost every cutting board.. The feet solve two problems, it provides safety from slipping and sliding around while you are cutting, and also keeps air circulating underneath when the board is drying out to prevent warping. If you insist on having no feet on your board, please send me a note and I can most certainly accommodate.
