Remember the adorable sock monkey toy you had as a child? Now the whole family can have fun winter hats based on that nostalgic toy that will keep the "winter blahs" away! This listing is for a knitting pattern containing all the instructions for you to make your own knitted earflap sock monkey hats for anyone - baby, toddler, child, teen or adult! This pattern is written in six different sizes, so there is certainly one that will be a good fit for you.

Sizes: Newborn (Baby/Toddler, Toddler/Preschooler, Child, Small Adult/Teen, Large Adult/Teen)
To fit: 14"-24" head circumference (measure around the head right above the eyebrows)

Lion Brand Yarn Wool-Ease, Light Worsted Weight Yarn (in the pattern, this is listed as an "Aran weight" because that's what it says on the yarn label, but in my opinion, it is more like a light worsted weight.)
Oxford Gray 60 -119 yds
Cranberry 50 - 62 yds
Fisherman 25 - 52 yds
16" US Size 5 metal circular needle [I only specify metal needles because this is what I used to get gauge. Bamboo needles give me a much looser knit.]
Size 5 dpn, set of 4
Size F/5 Crochet Hook
Stitch Marker
Fiberfill stuffing (for muzzle)
Black Buttons or Felt (for eyes)
Black Thread & a Sewing needle
Yarn Needle
Very small amount of black yarn (could substitute gray) for nostrils

Abbreviations and Skills Used:
dpn: double-pointed needles
K2tog: Knit 2 stitches together
Kfb: Knit into the front and back legs of the same stitch (+1 stitch increase)
Knitting the Round
RS / WS: Right side of work, wrong side of work
rep: repeat
sts: stitches
Wrap & Turn: Video link provided
Working in Wrapped Stitches: Video link provided
Crochet Slip Stitch: Video link provided

Gauge: 21 stitches X 30 rows = 4 x 4 inches in stockinette

Pattern will be available for download after you check out. Make sure you check the e-mail inbox associated with your Etsy account to access the e-mail containing the download link.

Customers who purchased my sock monkey hat pattern before October 26, 2011 can message me through Etsy to request a free copy of this "upgraded" pattern. Please include your e-mail address in the Etsy message because I can not send a pdf file though the Etsy messaging system. There are some minor edits of the pattern itself, but the main changes are the additions of two adult/teen sizes and the addition of video links to help knitters through the parts that I have had a lot of people ask questions about. The gauge is also different because I wrote this pattern using a different yarn than I used for the first version.

An easy to follow pattern, with no hiccups. It also caused me to check YouTube to learn how to wrap stitches. Thank you.
