More Information about Lucite:

The best-known acrylic plastic, sold under the trade names Plexiglas and Lucite, is polymethyl methacrylate. It takes a high polish, is clear and colorless, and is transparent to visible and ultraviolet light. Since it is a thermoplastic, it can be shaped while hot to form a number of objects, such as windshields for airplanes, and of course, beads.

Lucite beads are highly durable. They are not molded the same as plastic beads, therefore, you will not see lines in your lucite beads, as you would in a plastic bead.

The lucite beads we currently have in stock are not recent, and are limited. They are Moonglow lucite, for the obvious reason that they have a wonderful glow to them. This also made picture taking quite a task for me. Some colors are much more vivid than what you can see in the picture. Lucite is becoming increasingly popular. I was once a snob to the "plastic" bead, but lucite has changed the way I look at beads!

Unicorne Lampwork Beads:

Unicorne Beads are individually handcrafted in the USA by a network of highly skilled glassblowers. These beads are fashioned in a torch flame by a process called lampworking. Unlike most beads which are made from ordinary or soft glass, Unicorne Beads are created from "hard" or borosilicate glass. Only the finest imported glass from Europe and the United States is used. Many of the colored glass is custom mixed. Borosilicate glass is worked at a much higher temperatures than ordinary glass and then kiln annealed at over 1000 degrees which makes for a stronger more durable product. The higher temperatures are also responsible for the rich natural colors characteristic of Unicorne borosilicate glass beads.
