Item details

Hugh Thomson was one of the most popular and successful book illustrators of the Victorian era. He was born in Ireland in 1860, where his skills as an illustrator were recognized when he was still a teenager. He moved to England, where he worked for MacMillan & Co. from 1883 and on, illustrating all six of Jane Austen’s novels and other literary classics. By 1900 he had become one of the most popular illustrators of his time. He died in 1920.

This listing is for a complete alphabet based on the the drop caps Hugh Thomson designed for his illustrated version of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. Readers of the illustrated version will note that each chapter begins with a fully illustrated first letter. I have painstakingly scanned each letter, cropped and saved it here for you as a .jpg image, perfect for a multitude of projects, from scrapbooking, to newsletters and letterhead, and more. In the rare case where there was not a letter available, I have modified existing letters to create a complete alphabet (see "K" and "L" in the sample sheet)

These letters feature charming illustrations of Regency Ladies and Gentlemen and would be adorable additions to any project. Included with your complete alphabet of 26 letters, you will also receive duplicates of several letters with additional artwork, for a total of 70 letters in all!

Shipping is free, as I will email a zipped file of the images. Check my other listings for additional Thomson images from Pride and Prejudice, both full color and Black and white!
