Item details

Ecru Shetland Combed Top. 8 oz. AR0016BSF.

Shetland Wool came originally from the Shetland Islands. Shetland Sheep are now found in many different countries and places. This Shetland Combed Top was grown in England.

Shetland Sheep many times have a double coat with a coarse outer coat. This top has the outer coat removed . This has left a lovely combed top that is 29 microns. The staple length is 5 inches. A long staple is better for beginning spinning when you learning How to Spin Yarn. The spinning of this fiber is comparatively smooth and easy. It is also a lovely fiber that would work nicely for needle felting and wet felting projects.

Shetland is known to combine light weight with unusual durability for it range of fineness. This top is in a natural white ecru color. Natural Ecru White colors can be dyed or left in the natural color. This wool is suitable for spinning, felting, and blending.

FAQs

We do not accept returns due to color variation in monitors, cell phone, or video screens. Due to most of our items being hand painted, dyed, or natural colors, we do our best to describe color, sizing and items as true and with as much description as possible. Please ask questions prior to purchase to make sure you are pleased with your item. Any returns accepted will be a case by case basis in our discretion. Buyer must ship item back in clean and original condition. Buyer will receive refund after item is returned minus original shipping via original payment method.

Many of our items are hand painted and special dye lots. All are individually created so there are no two alike. Even if there are multiples of a hand painted yarn skein, they will work together but still be individual and slightly different in each color vat and dye lot. We do not do custom dye lots for rovings, tops, yarns or wearable art and finished pieces. These pieces are already finished in a custom color, or left in their natural state.

Most of the hand dyed and hand painted items have been washed by hand in the dye and set process. Occasionally a piece will still have a bit of dye in it that might bleed. We recommend that items are hand washed in COLD water with LIKE colors to ensure color staying where it is supposed to. Do not wash wool fibers or items made from wool fibers in hot water with soap and agitation or the item will FELT. Dry flat or line dry where appropriate, Do not dry in an electric dryer or item will FELT.

So, so soft!! And it spins BEAUTIFULLY! As soon as it arrived today I had to pull it out and try spinning a bit of it, and I'm super pleased with the results. This is going to be spun into yarn to make Yule/Christmas gifts. :)
