This artemisia, is especially wonderful as the foliage is highly aromatic, and has been used for centuries as an air freshener, but it will also fill your yard with a very pleasant scent on the breeze. While this is considered and annual it is also perennializing in some areas, and that is not a bad thing. However, in the north they are considered invasive in some areas, but are also easy to contain.
Taken internally in tea form, (and in now pill form in some countries, being called ATC's) and its derivatives have been proven very effective and curative to the anti-malarial parasite, Plasmodium. Plasmodium is a protozoon that is introduced into the body by an infected mosquito. Under laboratory conditions, test have proven conclusive that this seems to be very effective, (Check “WebMD.”) Uganda is growing this as a medicinal crop now and they are converting thousands of acres, nation wide, grow this, and to help solve their horrible death rates by malaria. PBS has a great program about, Artemesia annua, called - "The Plant that Cures Malaria (Uganda)" released in 2010. Of course it also talks about how corporations and governments are causing difficulties.
It can also be used as an external poultice, and reduce the symptoms of boils and abscesses. And it also is an antibiotic plant.
Handling the leaves and pollen of this plant may also cause skin irritation to people with sensitive allergies.
