This simple to make Crocheted Oval Bag is made in a fairisle effect sock yarn, worked in the round using double crochet stitches (US: single crochet stitches). It has crocheted, plaited handles and an oval base which is reinforced by a plastic canvas insert. I made this version in Opal Rainforest 4 shade Elvira 2146; use any of the self striping sock yarns or a handpainted yarn for easy but amazing colour effects.
Use any sock yarn with a stocking stitch knitting tension of 30 stitches and 42 rows to 10cm (4in) or one that is recommended to be worked on 2.5mm needles or hook.
2mm crochet hook.
Plastic canvas cut to size for base.
56cm (22in) circumference, 29cm (11 1/2in) high and 9cm (3 1/2in) deep.
Chain, double crochet (US: single crochet)
The pattern uses UK crochet terms but it can easily be translated into US terms, only dc is different, all other terms are the same.
Stitch diagrams, full and clear instructions.
