Have you heard of plastic yarn (aka “plarn”)? This sturdy material looks like raffia, but is actually made using recycled plastic grocery bags. It’s sturdy and flexible, which makes it ideal for crochet projects. Bonus: It’s also pretty easy to find on Etsy Studio, if you’d rather buy a roll than make it yourself. Scroll on for three project ideas made by upcycling expert Claire of MontclairMade.

You will need

1. Coasters

Who would have thought these coasters are made from recycled grocery bags?

2. Ring dish

A small ring dish doubles as a basket for buttons.

3. Plant basket

Crochet a small basket (or three!) and use them for storing plants. Bonus: Doubles as a pencil holder.
