This patterned plate is the perfect catch-all. Use it in your entryway or on a dresser to hold coins, crystals, keys and jewelry. Mimic the pattern we created below using washi tape cut into diamonds – or customize the colors and shapes to match your decor. (Note: This plate is not intended for use with food.)

You will need

Step 1: Prime the plate

Use the large paintbrush and white paint to prime the surface of the wooden plate. Let dry completely.

Step 2: Apply your first paint color

Once the white paint is dry, paint the plate with your first color. Go bold or stick to neutral – it’s up to you! Let dry.

Step 3: Cut out washi tape shapes and adhere to plate

Next, cut the washi tape in shapes and sizes of your choosing and adhere them to the plate. Optional: You can also use stickers in this step!

Step 4: Apply your second paint color

Paint the plate with your second color, carefully painting over the washi tape shapes. Let dry.

Step 5: Peel off washi tape shapes or stickers

Once the second coat is completely dry, peel off the washi tape shapes to reveal bright, bold patterns. Touch up with the small paint brush if needed.

Step 6: Finish with water-based sealant

Use water-based sealant to finish your plate.
