Step 1: Determine length of strap and cut

Drape the trim around your neck to determine how long you want to make your strap. Add 4 in. / 10 cm. to this length and cut.

Step 2: Slide end through swivel clasp

Take one end of your length of trim and fold both corners inwards. Slide these ends into a swivel clasp so about 2 in. / 5 cm. of trim are through the clasp.

Step 3: Stitch end in place

Baste stitch the cut end onto the trim to secure it in place. Set aside.

Step 4: Cut leather

Cut a rectangular strip of leather 1/2 in. / 1 cm. thinner than the width of your trim, and about 3 in. / 8 cm. long.

Step 5: Measure and cut leather pieces

Fold the piece of leather in half. Place your second swivel clasp above the fold as a guide for the width of the center of the leather piece. Use a pen to mark the width of the D-ring on either side of the leather fold.
Where you’ve marked off on the leather piece, cut from the outer edge towards the fold on both sides to create a notch.
Round the outer edges if desired.

Step 6: Trace and repeat

Trace this shape onto a second piece of leather and cut. (Note: You'll use the second piece on the other side of your camera strap.)

Step 7: Cover your trim

Starting on the end of trim you previously sewed. Slide one of the leather pieces through the D-ring and over the trim.

Step 8: Punch holes in leather

Use the mallet and leather hole punch to punch three holes: one in the center near the D-ring, and one on each corner as pictured above.

Step 9: Set rivets and repeat

Insert a rivet in each hole and use the mallet and rivet setter to set. Repeat on the other side of your trim using your second leather piece to complete your camera strap.

All done!

Clip to your camera and start snapping.
