These scented sachets help keep clothes smelling fresh, and using them is easy: simply stash them in your drawers or hang them in your closet. In this tutorial, learn how to sew your own using a sewing machine, dried lavender, and a fat quarter of fabric (one fat quarter will yield a few small sachets). Finish with decorative ribbon for flair and function – the ribbon will make them easier to hang in your closet.

Sewing machine

Step 1: Cut fabric

Cut two 4 in. / 10 cm. squares of fabric using your ruler, rotary cutter, and self-healing mat.

Step 2: Cut ribbon

Cut a 4 in. / 10 cm. length of ribbon. Fold the ribbon in half to make a loop.

Step 3: Line up the fabric

Put the pretty sides of your fabric facing each other. Place the ribbon loop between your two pieces of fabric, so the edges line up and the loop sits in the center.

Step 4: Pin

Pin the top and sides to prep for sewing. (Note: The part with the ribbon will be the top of your sachet.)

Step 5: Sew the sides

Use a sewing machine to sew the sides and top of your sachet, leaving a ½ in. / 1 cm. seam allowance. Be sure to leave the bottom of the sachet open.

Step 5: Trim

Use your fabric scissors to trim the top and sides of your sachet. This will help prevent fraying.

Step 6: Flip your fabric

Now that you've sewn the top and sides, turn your sachet right-side out.

Step 7: Add lavender

Fill with lavender. (We used about 2 tbsp. / 15 ml.; use as much as you wish.)

Step 8: Pin the bottom

Fold the unsewn seam on the bottom of your sachet. Pin into place to secure.

Step 9: Sew the bottom

Use a ladder stitch to hand-sew the bottom of your sachet.

Done!

Now you're ready to stash these sachets in your drawers, or hang them near the clothes in your closet. So fresh and so clean.
