Step 1: Cut the embroidery thread
Cut 60 in. / 132 cm. (or desired length) of gold embroidery thread. Set aside.
Step 2: Choose a pattern
Organize felt balls and pom poms (if using) into piles according to color. Next, play with your materials, arranging in varying patterns until you find an arrangement you like. Once you’ve found your desired pattern, keep everything lined up.
Step 3: Begin threading
Thread needle, leaving a 1-2 in. / 2-3 cm. tail of the gold thread. Use your needle to poke through the center of the first felt ball or pom pom in your arrangement. You’ll want to go directly through the center, so the felt ball or pom pom hangs evenly on the string.
Tip: If you mess up, don’t worry – simply unstring and start again. Pom poms and felt balls are very forgiving supplies!
Step 4: Keep threading
Continue threading your felt balls or pom poms onto the string in the order of your pattern. Don’t worry about spacing yet – we’ll get to that in the next step.
Step 5: Start spacing
Once all the felt balls and pom poms are on your string, space them out evenly as desired.
Step 6: Finish the ends
Tie loops on both ends, to make hanging a breeze. Skip this step if you prefer to hang using washi tape. Done!
