Combining two vibrant sources of color, gem stones and silk, plus other fibers.
When I became too sick to continue working a regular job, I returned to my artistic origins, in jewelry and fiber. As my audience grew, so did my confidence, and I began to branch out, teaching myself to crochet so I could crochet fine-gauge wire. Densely beaded crocheted wire jewelry quickly became something I was known for, and friends and customers urged me to open an etsy shop.
Originally known as dianesgems, I outgrew my name as I began selling my felt and other fiber pieces, so I changed the shop name to reflect its actual content.
My creations and my vintage items are all made with quality materials: sterling silver and genuine gemstones in my jewelry, soft alpaca, other natural fibers and vintage sari silk chiffon in my felt, high quality unusual silk, cotton and wool in my sewn work, pure silk, cotton or wool in my vintage items. And when I have excess of some of these materials I sell them here, where I know they will inspire more creativity.
While on a crazy quilting spree a number of years back I became acquainted with kimono silks and began collecting them. And as my personal passion for kimono, haori (kimono jackets) and kimono fabrics grew, I began to run out of display and storage space, while also wanting to share my passion for this ancient yet evolving textile tradition. Hence the presence of antique and vintage haori and kimono, and their constituent textiles, in my shop.
I have on occasion cut one up, but they are such lovely examples of wearable art that I really hate to do so, and generally only take scissors to ones with significant damage. But I now have way too many kimono and haori, so as I photograph them, I post them for sale here, hoping to find them new homes with people who will love them. Haori and kimono are handmade, often from handmade textiles. The techniques of their design and creation are frequently stunning. I hope you will see one you love, whether to wear or to hang on a wall. Please check back, as I am trying to photograph much of my entire collection and will be posting them here.
I also use less usual materials such as copper tubing and wire and findings I make myself. In my fiber work I felt with silk whenever possible to create delicate, floaty felt fabrics; I sew with new silk and vintage fabrics; I crochet with wire and beads to make things like you've never seen before. I like odd combinations of things: burned copper tubing toggle buttons and broken old watches as buttons, felt flower pots, camisoles made of pretty old hankies and doilies. Art provides us different ways of seeing things, and creating a few of those ways is a great pleasure to me. Welcome to my shop!

Accepted payment methods
Similarly I nearly always use manila envelopes or Priority envelopes/boxes, both of which can be recycled. I do have poly envelopes, but I rarely use them. If you prefer that I package your items in plastic, please let me know and I will do my best to accommodate your preferences.
In general, I ship by the least expensive option although I ship Priority once a domestic order reaches approximately $6.00 in shipping charges, so that your order is covered by insurance. Because each of my items weighs a different amount, I have not priced the various shipping alternatives. If you prefer a faster method, or want to add insurance, convo me and I will work out a price quote for you.
