Fun and unique patterns for children's clothes and menswear!
My name is Cara. I am a mum of two delightful littlies, a pattern-maker, and an admirer of the finer details in life and design. I love seeing photos of huge waves. I hate girls’ dresses in patchwork prints with frills and a bow. I want to plant mint in my new lawn for that aroma every time my husband mows. I’m a practical person, and function is as important to me as style. And I have a confession to make… I bribe my son with sultanas to cooperate during photoshoots.
I love the challenge of creating a new complex pattern and breaking it down into pieces that a novice sewer can put back together again. I want the “average” home sewer to be able to create more than just a smock dress or pair of boxer shorts. I want them to be able to craft a garment that is well-fitted, personalised and exquisite.
All my patterns have been designed for my family to wear, and each has a purpose. I enjoy designing for children the most, and my toddling son and baby daughter are ongoing sources of both amusement and inspiration. My three brothers can be quite demanding, and have requested such designs as “The Hugh Jacket” and “The Dylan Shorts.” Some patterns, such as “The Banjo Coat” have been created for the sole purpose of up-cycling old clothes.
There are so many ideas bubbling around in my head for new patterns, and so many new techniques I want to try! Let me translate amazing pattern-making methods into a workable and wonderful pattern for YOU!
Happy sewing and may you never un-pick.
Cara created Dizzy Mister after inspiration from family requests for bespoke clothing.
