Thank you for checking out my shop. I just opened in February 2014. Please contact me if you have questions or comments about anything in the shop.
I have to thank my very creative and talented friend Kate. She is the one that inspired me to open this shop. Without her faith in me that I could do it, it would not have happened. Thanks Kate! You are an inspiration! :)
I also want to thank Tim for setting up the FullCircleArtworx website AND for being my first customer AND for always being supportive of my creativity! :) Thanks Tim. You are the absolute sweetest! :) <3
My whole life, I've been involved in creating things. Love of the arts must run in my family. My dad has always been very artistic and wonderful at drawing, carpentry, wood carving, and other random things. My mom is the most enthusiastic gardener I know. My brother loved to draw when he was younger and even got into doing tattoos. My niece is wonderfully creative and loves to draw. One of my aunts loved to crochet and another created many beautiful paintings and her son cousin does graphic arts.
When I was 5, I made make-up sets out of paper and crayons, sort of like paper dolls, only it was blush and eye shadow to carry in a paper purse. When I was about 8 or 9, I cut up my school clothes to make clothes for my dolls. Let me tell you, my mom loved that.
When I was in junior high school, my mom got me up at the crack of dawn Saturday mornings to take me downtown to participate in art classes. I never wanted to play sports or dance. It was always something arty. I took both art classes available in high school and ended up being the art assistant my senior year because there weren't any more art classes for me to take.
I have an art design degree from college. My major paths of study in college were fiber arts (weaving) and photography. For my final independent study class in photography, I took very close up, abstracted shots in black and white of a glass object. At the end of the semester I asked the class what they thought the object was. They were surprised to find out that it was an apple juice jar. I love doing things like that - taking ordinary things and turning them into something fun, original and creative.
For my final independent study project in my fiber arts class I made wall hanging that measured 8' wide x 5' tall and weighed about 50 pounds. It was made out of cotton muslin that I had dyed in large pieces then cut into strips about 1" wide and knitted. My mom even came over and helped me sew the duckcloth on the back of it so that the knitted fabric wouldn't stretch out when it was hanging up. I remember that when I showed my professor the initial drawings of this project she remarked that it most likely wouldn't turn out like I wanted it to but she gave me the thumbs up to do it anyway. When I showed it to her in it's finished state the last day of class she gasped and put her hand to her chest. I will never forget that reaction! :) In fact, sometimes when I have a bad day I think of that moment.
I've been knitting since 1994 and crocheting since 2001. I taught knitting one summer at the Parks & Recreation Department a few years ago. I've taught many people how to knit in private lessons and during lunches at work over the years.
I'm always involved with something creative. From cake decorating to sewing Halloween costumes to making costume jewelry to helping with someone else's creativity behind the scenes on indie movie sets or setting up haunted houses for Halloween parties. I love being creative. It "gets the crazy out" and keeps me sane.
