GrammasKnittedGifts was created as a way for me to share my love of knitting and my Clickin'Stix™ knitting needles!
Welcome to GrammasKnittedGifts on Etsy! My Gramma gave me so many gifts throughout her life, one of which was the love of knitting. I have many fond memories of growing up in Vermont and sitting inside on a cold winter’s day while she patiently taught me to knit - as her Grandmother had done for her many years before!
My interest and skill evolved over the years, I started out with the basics: learning how to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off. By the time I was 12, Gramma had me making socks and hats in the round; in high school I had completed a few sweaters. When my own children were small, I created my own patterns in the tradition I had learned growing up. My Kids loved to wear hats with their names knitted into them and the warm; multicolored socks that I made from scraps of yarn were a must have for my kids as well as their cousins and friends.
My original knitting patterns are available for immediate download in the “knitting patterns” section of the site. I’m currently working on a baby blanket and nifty ankle socks patterns – check back soon if either of them interest you. Thanks to all of my customers that insist that I continue to “write it down”. Most of these items I’ve made for years with just a few scribbles here and there to remind me. I write them down as fast as I can knit – which is thankfully pretty fast, but it still takes a few weeks..
With the help of our craftsmen friends in India, we’ve created a line of custom needles and are proud to be able to share these unique tools with you. Rosewood and Subabul wood single, double-pointed and circular Clickin'Stix™ are the very finest tools available to knit or ”click it” with. The highly polished wood finishes create just enough tension on the yarn to not fall off, yet allow the stitches to glide comfortably from needle to needle. If you’ve never tried good quality wooden needles, you owe it to yourself to give these a try – they’re a pleasure to work with.
I’ve found that by making slight changes to my needles they’re far more comfortable and forgiving. For example, with most national brand 16 inch circular knitting needles, the flexible nylon portion is too short and/or the needle portion of the tool too long. My 17 inch circular Clickin'Stix™ have proper needle to nylon ratios and are a joy to knit with. Needles with shanks measure 3 3/4 inches each, leaving a full 9 1/2 inches of nylon for your project. These needles are perfect! Also, most standard 7 inch double-pointed needles have a tendency to be just a bit shorter than necessary - or manufactured just shy of 7 inches. My double-pointed Clickin'Stix™ needles have been created with just a bit of extra length at 7 3/4 inches. Since I hate sewing pieces together, these circulars and double pointed needles are used exclusively in the patterns I create.
Of course single point Subabul wood and Rosewood knitting needles are available with the same fine finishes and detail to craftsmanship. We carry both needles in both materials as each has its’ place when using dark or light colored yarns. Either variety wears beautifully as the woods are very dense. No more Bamboo splintering! These lovely tools are custom made with contrasting finials and are available in 9, 12 and 14 inch lengths.
From time to time I have hand knit garments available in the store in the “knitted items” sections. I often knit to keep my hands busy, or to write down another pattern so my inventory will vary depending on what I feel like making. I do take requests – send me a note!
