Large Cache of Vintage Nantucket Post Cards
For many years, serious post card collectors have known of a treasure trove hidden in the attic of Young's Bicycle Shop on Nantucket Island. Now Etsy makes it possible to showcase and share these little pieces of Nantucket history.
The bulk of this collection is from noted photographer H. Marshall Gardiner. In the 1920s Gardiner's scenes were beautifully reproduced by the Detroit Publishing Company as "PHOSTINTS" and in the 1930s by the Photochrome Process Company, Philadelphia Pensylvania, under the trademark "Nantuckromes".
Other Nantucket cards, artists unknown, include borderless black & white "Photolux" from the American Art Postcard Company of Boston and Brookline, Massachusetts, color, linen type cards from Tichnor Brothers, also from Boston and color chrome cards from Curteich, "C. T. American Art" published in Chicago, Illinois.
These cards are suitable to collect in albums, frame for display, utilize in crafting projects or be mailed around the world. Please enjoy browsing through my shop and taking "A little Phostint Journey" to Nantucket Island.
