My Life Playing Dress Up
As a mom of six beautiful girls, I am in love with all things handmade. Growing up with five brothers and a "tomboy" sister, I never really got to play dress up. You can imagine my surprise when my first child was a sweet baby girl! How I enjoyed dressing her up and showing her off. ♥ It seems God does indeed have a sense of humor, seeing as He blessed me with five more beautiful daughters over the following 15 years! I never would have imagined my future life as it is today and I'm so very thankful to be able to work from home and be available for our girls as they navigate this thing called life. ♥
When did I first get started on Etsy? In 2007, a friend suggested I try making a diaper cake, since I enjoyed messing around with ribbons and lace. As they say, the rest is history! ♥ Diaper Cake Designs by Rachel ♥ was born shortly thereafter and those designs are still being pinned on Pinterest today.
As the popularity of diaper cakes began to subside, newborn photography caught my eye and I began making tutus and props for infants in 2012. I love making the teeny-tiny tutus and thinking about the little one who will wear it. I design, photograph, create, sell, package, and ship every item myself. My studio is a lovely ♥ piano room ♥ and I am surrounded my all the things I love...my family, my home, and all the beautiful materials to create something special for little girls.
Each and every design is made with love and care. I use high quality, super soft diamond net tulle, and securely hand-tie every section to a crochet elastic waistband creating between 6-8 layers for each tutu. An organza and satin ribbon is then threaded through the waistband and tied in a bow so the tutu skirt has an adjustable waist. I then separate each of the layers by hand creating a super fluffy tutu that photographs ideally.
Before shipping, I wrap each item carefully in tissue paper, slide it into its own clear bag and tie it with ribbon or lace.
Sizing a tutu can be tricky and I try to make it as easy as possible by providing waist and length options in many of my listings.

I am an artist…not a mass producer. I work out of my home studio designing, creating, styling, photographing, listing, marketing, selling, shipping, and following up on each item personally. I have six children, run a busy household, and homeschool so my time is "limited."
