Love wood and sharp things
I use hand tools only for carving and leave all wooden items knife finished. When the the knives are sharp and your hand steady, I prefere this method over sandpaper. A chainsaw is used to cut down the tree. Other then that it's just axe, knife and hook knife. The axe work and most of the carving is done while the wood is green. Then the spoon is left to dry for a few day before I make the finishing cuts . The spoon is treated with a coat of organic canola (rapeseed) oil. It is a neutral oil and is totally food safe.
