A passion for patterns!
We're mother and daughter team, Nancy and Erica. We started Virtual Vintage after the passing of our parents/grandparents. We suddenly found ourselves in possession of many vintage items that we knew we wouldn't use, but that were too nice to dispose of, so on to Etsy!
Among the items was a small stash of patterns from Nancy's mother/Erica's grandmother. She used to sew most of her own clothes. As well, we like to say she was Martha Stewart before Martha. She not only sewed, but crocheted beautifully, was a talented gardener, a great square dancer, kept an immaculate house, was an excellent cook (German Chocolate Cake!), and more.
The patterns she left were the starting point for our love of retro fashions. In 2012, we found our first outside source for patterns. All of the sudden, we found ourselves immersed in the world of sewing patterns. We kept researching and learning, and couldn't get enough. A new passion and addiction was born!
While we find all fashions fascinating, we have a particular love for vintage patterns. Flapper dresses of the 20's, the elegant day dresses of the 30's, the wonderful Hollywood patterns of the 30's & 40's, the full skirts of the 50's, that classic A-line of the 60's - we love them all! Beyond the love of the styles from each era, there's the sense of awe that these patterns inspire. Knowing that something so delicate has survived for so many years, and that it came from such a different time and place is incredible. Knowing that each pattern was likely someone else's inspiration in the past and is now going to be made current by a new generation is truly wonderful.
