Always room for one more bear......
I started to make bears in 2007, it started when I was looking for a particular style bear for my daughter and couldn't find the exact one that 'spoke' to me!
After making that first one, I was asked to make more by other people, and Butterfly Bears was born.
I decided upon the name as I was always astonished (and sometimes still am!) when the mohair is stitched and turned, stuffed and embroidered, and suddenly a little face appears with a personality all of it's own - it reminds me of a Butterfly emerging from it's cocoon - how can something so seemingly drab produce such a lovely character?
My surroundings do influence my work - I live in a small market town surrounded by rolling hills and old thatched cottages, I love the old and traditional, and enjoy bringing that look to my bears.
I also like to make clothing for the bears, but sometimes find vintage treasures for them too.
I am always happy to do custom work - if you see a bear you like and want something more personal then please let me know!
Please note that my bears are adult collectables, as they contain hardware such as cotter pin joints, and small items such as glass eyes and steel shot, that may be hazardous to children. As such they are not play things for children, please keep them away from children and animals!
Thanks for reading, if you have any questions or comments I am always pleased to hear from collectors!
