Color is Forever
Nothing lasts forever, but enamels far outlast us. It’s one of the things that made me fall in love with them. The colors are layers of glass fired onto a metal base, at temperatures ranging from 1350˚F-1700˚F. I mostly work on copper.
I love color. The beauty of colored glass on metal is unsurpassed by any other medium, at least to me. Even after years of enameling, I still marvel at pieces emerging from the kiln, bearing designs that will remain unchanged for the rest of our lives.
Because the colors are glass, not paint, my switch plates can withstand years of groping in the dark, virtually unchanged. I have some in my house that I’ve been using for more than 25 years. All my works maintain their subtle beauty through the years.
The last thing you see when you turn off the light at night is the light switch. Why not see a beautiful work of art before you close your eyes? Toothbrush holders, cabinet knobs, jewelry, all are ways to bring art into a mundane world.
Let art touch your everyday life and brighten your day.
Around the web
I studied metal working at the art school at ECU, and did the craft show and gallery circuit for many years. After a hiatus during which I was a pastry chef, I came back to the art I love, with the power of the internet this time.
Art is forever.
Accepted payment methods
- Money Order
I also accept money orders, but will not ship (or begin custom work) until I receive payment.
The price shown for shipping knobs (or anything else) is only for the first item. Each additional knob adds 50¢ to the shipping. Most jewelry is $1 for each additional item.
If your order consists of art that already exists (see additional info below), I will get your purchases out and in the mail within 48 to 72 hrs of receipt of your payment. If your purchase is made over a weekend or holiday, it may take an extra day to get shipment off. For Made-To-Order items, please note the projected shipping date.
I include delivery confirmation for domestic shipping. If you would like to buy insurance or otherwise upgrade shipping, please convo me.
Returns and exchanges
- Custom or personalized orders
- Perishable products (like food or flowers)
- Digital downloads
- Intimate items (for health/hygiene reasons)
If there is a problem with an item that is made-to-order, even if it is not a custom order, please contact me. This includes all cabinet knobs, which I don't make until they are purchased.
I try to keep the colors in my photos true, but colors can vary from monitor to monitor. If you have any questions about an item, please ask before purchasing, so we can minimize the need for returns.
Should anything get mangled by the postal service, please contact me and DON'T touch the damaged areas. Enamels can be refired if they are kept absolutely clean.
Additional policies and FAQs
Some trinket plates, switchplates and all cabinet knobs shown are prototypes. They will be made after you order them.
I will gladly do custom work. Contact me through etsy to discuss. In the case of the switch plates, I can do most of them in sizes other than what is shown. Sales will be done through the etsy site.
If an enameled piece gets dropped or bent, the surface may crack. If this happens, DON'T TOUCH THE CRACK. I know it's counter intuitive, like not scratching an itch. If kept clean, the piece can be refired. If any oils have gotten in the crack, a small line may always be visible. Contact me to arrange repairs.
Positive feedback is great. We all need a pat on the back now and then, and potential buyers read it. If you ever have any difficulties with my artwork, before you leave negative feedback for me, please contact me. I will try to rectify the situation to ensure your happiness with the item(s).
