All Original Artwork
Art is my life. I began making things as a young child, and I haven't stopped yet!
Many of the items in my Etsy shop are handmade by me. I devise all my own patterns and designs. My things are all original and usually one of a kind.
I have enjoyed the freedom to use my artwork in a variety of different ways throughout my career, starting with one of my very first jobs as a cake decorator for a bakery. At that time, there was no photo-technology for reproducing images on cakes. We were required to copy the customers' photos by drawing them onto the cake top (in icing, of course!) I used this as an opportunity to practice my drawing skills, though it was somewhat disheartening to know that my artwork always ended up being eaten!
I focused my college years on medical illustration, having become enamored with the visceral forms I saw in human and other anatomy. The organic forms I encountered here continue to inspire my work to this very day.
When I learned to manipulate metal, I began a satisfying chapter of creativity designing and making jewelry.
A few years back, my jewelry designs came to the attention of a large company, and several pieces were licensed and manufactured for mass marketing. Some of these can be seen at www.thefind.com ...
And then there's the knitting....
My mother showed me how when I was 11. I stopped for a while during the 1990's, but picked it up again and haven't stopped yet. I never use a pattern, because I find it too difficult to keep referring to the instructions. My knitting flows when I design my own patterns, sometimes with no more than a vague idea as I'm casting on. I don't know why this method works for me, but it definitely makes knitting more exciting!
The unique Vintage items in my shop are hand picked for sale here. I like to offer things of interest, not seen in your local thrift store.
